Snap & Say Privacy Policy
Snap & Say helps you practise English with your own photos and everyday situations. We collect as little as we can: your learning records stay on your device, and content is sent out for processing only when you choose to use an AI feature.
What stays on your device
Topics, practice sets, photos, recordings, review history and settings are stored in this device or browser only. They are not uploaded to our servers and there is no cloud sync. Backup files you export are saved wherever you choose. Deleting the app, clearing the browser's site data, or deleting records in the app removes them.
Your account
AI features need an account. Accounts are provided by Supabase, and we keep:
- your email address and a securely hashed password (we never see the password itself); with Apple or Google sign-in, the account identifier and email they provide;
- sign-in records such as time and IP address, for security;
- how many times you used each AI feature per day, to apply the free allowance.
The account only identifies who is using the AI allowance. It is not linked to your learning records.
What is sent when you use AI
Only after you confirm does the app send the following through our server to OpenAI:
- Generating practice: the name, description and request you entered, with the chosen level and translation language;
- Analysing a photo: the photo you picked. Our server re-compresses it and removes metadata such as location and device before sending;
- Checking pronunciation: the recording you chose to check and its English sentence;
- Natural speech: the English sentence to be read aloud.
Our server handles this content in memory only and does not write it to logs or files. To avoid charging twice, it briefly keeps generated speech audio and the text result of pronunciation checks in memory (never the recording itself); this is cleared when the server restarts. Generation requests ask OpenAI not to store them. OpenAI processes this content under its privacy policy and API data policies; under those policies, data sent through the API is not used to train models by default, but may be retained for a short time to prevent abuse.
Nothing is sent to us or OpenAI when you use the sample templates, record a scene, practise or review. With “System voice”, speech is produced by your device or browser's built-in voices, under that vendor's terms.
Service providers
- Supabase: accounts and usage counts;
- Resend: delivering account emails, such as sign-up confirmations, to your email address;
- OpenAI: processing the AI requests listed above;
- Render: hosting the website and our server. Like most websites, the host keeps basic access logs such as IP address and time.
These providers may process data outside your country or region. We do not sell your personal information, show ads, or use third-party analytics or tracking.
Your choices and rights
- You can use sample templates, record scenes, practise and review without an account;
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. Your account details and usage counts are deleted; learning records on your device stay;
- You can contact us to access, correct or delete information about your account.
How long we keep data
Account details and usage counts are kept until you delete your account. Logs kept by providers for security and operations are deleted on their own schedules.
Age requirement
Snap & Say is intended for people aged 18 and over. It is not directed at anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we make important changes, we will update the effective date on this page and let you know in the app.
